In many communities, there simply aren't enough homes to meet demand. The scarcity of housing makes it harder for families to find and afford a place to live. Airbnb helps families boost their income to afford their homes, and we are supporting long-term solutions to help make housing more accessible and affordable.

When guests travel on Airbnb, they support local families and communities. In 2025, a typical US host earned $16,000 via Airbnb - equivalent to an almost 19% pay rise for the typical US household. And, based on survey data, the typical guest in the US spent more than $775 per trip on other goods and services like restaurants, entertainment, shopping, and other local businesses. According to a 2024 EU report, for every dollar guests spend on Airbnb in the EU, they spend $2.50 in the local community. In the same year, US travel on Airbnb contributed an estimated $85 billion to GDP and supported one million jobs.

For guests, Airbnb provides an affordable, convenient and more sustainable alternative to large hotel chains, which allows them to stay in communities beyond tourist hotspots they might otherwise have missed. For many families and groups, Airbnb is the only way they can afford to travel, or access the amenities they need to do so.

We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to benefit from travel, and that smart regulations allow hosts and communities to realize these benefits. We also know that the overregulation of Airbnb hurts ordinary people by removing a vital source of income while making challenges facing cities worse.
